First Morning in Milan

This is from when I first woke up at 8am local time today. I got a nice shower and we went down the a cafe below Allie's apartment, the Penny Lane Cafe, for breakfast. It had murals of the Fab Four all over, and the man spoke some English even. I ordered un panino (specifically a ham and cheese hot, sub-like sandwich) and una spremuta  (orange juice that has been squeezed at the time of ordering). The spremuta tasted like I was drinking an orange, and the panino was what you would expect. Perhaps the bread was a little harder than in America.
After breakfast we heard that our wi-fi was ready and stopped by to get it. We got a little cube that plugs into the wall that instantly gave us Wi-fi. Strange. I was also told I need a deposit on the apartment IN CASH by Friday. I do not have that much cash with me, only traveler's checks and a credit card. He has me worried, so I decided I need to open my bank account early. I went to Student Services at NABA to ask about that, two days before we are told how in orientation. The man there told me that he's pretty sure a bank account would take to long to go into effect, and that I would not be able to exchange checks by Friday. He said that he's not sure I would even be able to exchange traveler's checks. Additionally, I might need an Italian number, and I'm using an America phone with an American number. Hopefully this will not be a problem when I eventually make the bank account. But they recommended I go to il Duomo (the middle of the city and the attraction to Milan for tourists) for the exchange places there that will take traveler's checks. Matt and Allie wanted to go to the Duomo today, so that seemed perfect. However, when I texted them after meeting with student services, apparently they had already left for il Duomo. They were with people that knew how to use the Metro bus system, so they quickly got their tickets and left. I went to the Metro but could not figure out where to buy tickets and went home. I will have to go tomorrow, at least to cash traveler's checks. If the exchange places do not end up taking traveler's checks, I don't know what I'll do. I wish I could have gotten that done today. Tomorrow is orientation, and if we are in the first Milan Walking Tour group then I will once again not have time to see il Duomo. Hopefully it works out.
